Inner West Sydney mother and entrepreneur Louella Docot of Kiss Ready, a range of chia-enriched natural skincare, has been selected as a finalist for the 2018 AusMumpreneur Awards in the Hair and Beauty Business Excellence category.
The AusMumpreneur Awards presented by The AusMumpreneur Network celebrate and recognize Australian Mums in business achieving outstanding success in areas such as business excellence, product development, customer service and digital innovation. The awards are designed to recognize the growing number of women who successfully balance motherhood and business in a way that suits their life and family.
Louella Docot is the founder and formulator of Kiss Ready; a chia-enriched range of natural skincare products handcrafted from mostly plant-based, food-grade and locally-sourced ingredients developed to help nourish the skin and bring unexpected luxury to self-care.
Louella previously worked for the Australian growers of chia seeds. Impressed by the nutritional, antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties of chia, she completed additional study in natural skincare formulation, aromatherapy and cosmetic chemistry; and started formulating natural products with cold pressed chia seed oil from her home in 2014.
“Being selected as a finalist means so much because it’s an acknowledgment that women and mothers like me can do. We can pursue our passion and raise our kids. It is great to be able to maintain a sense of identity and purpose, in the home and also in entrepreneurship.”
Business is not always easy, my artisanal skincare business continues to embrace and to learn how to overcome challenges. But there has also been great success like securing distributors overseas and getting our products on shelf in some of our favourite health food stores and organic grocers in Sydney, Melbourne and Canberra.”
It can be challenging to run a successful business whilst raising a family and Louella gives this advice for others thinking about starting their own enterprise. ”Be clear about your purpose and values. Knowing what inspires you will keep you on the path, even when the journey gets bumpy.”
Kiss Ready brands include Kiss Ready Lips and Kiss Ready Skin. Louella also crafts specialty products for new mums and their little ones through the Kiss Ready Baby and Kiss Ready Mama brands.
The national winners of the 2018 AusMumpreneur Awards will be announced in Melbourne on Friday 31 August.
